Website Revamping: When Should You Make a Change?

As a general rule of thumb, every two to three years your business should consider a website revamping. Even if you’re following all SEO best practices and producing great content, design techniques become date quickly, and new technology and integration change quickly. By neglecting a good spring cleaning, you stand the risk of diminishing returns on your hard work.

Cosmetics

It takes less than a second for users to form an opinion of your page, and nearly 40 per cent of people will stop engaging with a page if the layout is unattractive. It should be a no-brainer that a page with an outdated aesthetic will reflect poorly on a brand. First impressions are key, after all.

However, cosmetics is more than just fashion. A well-designed page should also take usability into consideration. Poor usability accounts for 70 per cent of failed online businesses, and yet only 55 per cent of companies conduct user experience tests.

Images, video, and vibrant colour are among the 2022 website designs musts of 2022. However, don’t go too overboard because nearly 85 per cent of web designers believe a congested design is the most common mistake. A minimalist approach would be ideal.

Going Mobile

In 2021, mobile devices accounted for over 60 per cent of organic search engine visits. Not surprising, then, that 80 per cent of the top-ranked websites are mobile-friendly. More specifically, over 60 per cent of consumers say they’re more likely to buy from a mobile-optimized site.

And yet 84 per cent of users reported having difficulty completing a mobile transaction. Time is also of the essence here, because nearly 90 per cent of users will leave after just a two-second delay. This is crucial because 40 per cent of users will go to a competitor after a bad mobile experience.

Websites need to be fully optimized for mobile users in 2022 or will face losing significant market share.

Security

Staying up to date with best online security practices is vital to a successful online business.

Hackers target security flaws in popular web software so it’s crucial to keep all platforms and scripts up to date. You should also perform web security scans after changes of additions to your page to check for vulnerabilities. Deleting any files, databases, or applications from your website that are no longer in use will reduce points of entry for hackers.

Hackers are also constantly developing new software that use brute force to crack passwords. Using a fourteen-digit mix of letters and numbers that you change every three months will further ensure security.
